Coral Castle in Homestead, Florida is a unique experience. Returning home from the Keys, we decided to stop in and see what it was all about. It is the home of a Latvian man, Ed who carved all of the stones and placed them himself. There is some question about how one man of only 150 pounds could accomplish this monumental feat. Although some would like to think there is something mysterious going on, Ed himself says that it is just common masonry work. Nevertheless, one has to wonder how he managed to perfectly balance a 9-ton gate that you can push open with your pinkie and how he could lift the heavy rocks into position. He also built a Polaris viewer...you sight through a hole in the castle through a huge rock tower and it aligns with the star Polaris. That's pretty amazing. An interesting place to visit, I wouldn't want to live there! Click on the
